Initial & Periodic Inspection and testing of Electrical Installations

This course is aimed at practicing electricians who wish to expand their understanding and qualifications for Initial & Periodic inspection and test of installations within the appropriate regulations and requirements. This qualification prepares candidates for the Initial & Periodic inspection and testing of electrical installation work.

This qualification is recognised and respected nationally and seen as the gold standard by the industry, assisting in proving competence in Initial & Periodic Inspection & Testing. It is an essential requirement for electrical organisations wishing to be part of the trade bodies such as NICEIC

What You Study

The course enables candidates to understand the principles, practices and legislation, and the knowledge gained underpins the application of skills for initial & periodic inspection and testing in a domestic commercial or industrial environment.

Subject Areas Include:

  • Safe isolation of circuits and installations
  • Requirements for inspection, testing and recording the condition of electrical installations
  • Requirements for completing both initial & periodic inspection
  • Understand the differences between periodic inspection and initial verification
  • Requirements for safe testing of installations in service
  • Interpreting test results
  • Requirements for completion of electrical installation certificates, condition reports and associated documents

Candidates will need to supply the following books from 18th Edition:

  • BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installation
  • Guidance Note 3 Inspection & Testing

The course takes 6 days of teaching, plus assessment time. On-line assessment date TBC

Entry Requirements

Candidates must be qualified as an Electrician or Electrical Engineer or allied trade supervisor/manager and have passed City & Guilds 2382 or equivalent 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

Career Paths

This course is for experienced and practicing electricians and allows them to work in Initial & Periodic inspection and test and be an authorised signatory for EIC’s, EICR’s and a Qualified Supervisor. The qualification can assist personal progress within an organisation, and help lead into the field of design of electrical systems.
